HF Nets (Mar. 5 2008)
The Ontario ARES HF net schedule will change effective Sunday March 09, 2008. The 40 metre net on 7.153 Mhz. will be suspended until propagation improves and permits Province-Wide communications. The Ontario ARES HF net will be conducted on Sundays at 13:00 hrs.on 80 metres on 3.742 Mhz. In addition the new Emergency Preparedness net will continue on Sundays at 14:00 hrs. on 80 metres on a frequency of 3.755 Mhz. Please continue to support all of the active Emergency Communications nets in Ontario that include the HF, IRLP, ProCom and E.P.networks. Bob Gammon, VA3RX
Northwest Ontario ARES Network Expansion (Feb. 11 2008) The IRLP details:
Scott, VA3EXT and I (VE3FYN) have been building IRLP nodes in the Northwest. We are using surplussed computers and GE MVS radios bought over e-Bay. NWO and Manitoba already have a healthy VHF repeater network, the Pinetree Intertie, where repeaters are connected via UHF radios across a backbone from Dryden to Northern Manitoba. The IRLP network supplements this by connecting communities not serviced by the Pinetree system. Current nodes are:
Dave Cameron, VE7LTD is the IRLP creator, and owner of reflector 9000. He's given us permission to use 9002 as a permanent home. The above nodes will sit on that reflector most of the time. Other planned nodes are:
Huronian repeater details: With the re-creation of the Atikokan repeater VE3RIB a couple years ago, a hole in the regional repeater network was filled. (See the area repeater map: http://my.drytel.net/va3ext/area_repeater_map.html.) There remains a gap between Atikokan and Thunder Bay, along Highway 11. The Atikokan Club, with assistance from the Dryden and Thunder Bay Clubs, is working to install a repeater at Huronian, along Highway 11. This is a very high point of land, and very well situated geographically. The repeater will be linked via RF to the Atikokan repeater. This will give blanket coverage on VE3RIB from Mine Centre to the West, to Turtle River to the North, to (at least) the Highway 11/17 junction to the east. At this point, people will be able to pick-up Thunder Bay repeaters. Since it will be linked to Atikokan, the Huronian repeater will have autopatch and IRLP capabilities. We have a two-bay Sinclair antenna and 7/8" feedline from the Thunder Bay Club, and a surplus police repeater from the Township of Atikokan. The Dryden Club is donating a set of cans. Scott and I will be tuning them up this weekend. Northwest Mobility has allowed us to setup on there Huronian tower the next time one of their people climbs. The Atikokan Club is applying for a Local Initiatives Grant for a two-channel controller. We hope to have it setup in the Spring of 2008. Other local stuff:
A similar situation is occurring in Ear Falls. VE3JJA, VE3JJX and VE3FYN are putting together an EOC radio station there as well. Warren VE3FYN
