| In a special joint venture between
Toronto FM Communications Society,
ARES
and Emergency Management Ontario a special check-in net celebrating
Earth Hour operated on all TFMCS frequencies (except 1.2GHz) between 8-9pm
on Saturday, March 29 under station callsign
VA3EMO.
All stations able to reach any one
of the repeaters were encouraged to check-in and report that they are participating
in Earth Day by turning off their lights and/or operating their station
on alternative power.
Jim Taylor VA3KU was operating the
amateur radio station VA3EMO onboard Mobile1,
the EMO communications vehicle and was the net control station for this
special event net.
Just prior to the start of the net
at 8pm, all of the TFMCS repeaters in both Uxbridge and the CN Tower sites
were linked (except 1286 MHz). The main hydro on all stations at the Uxbridge
site were disconnected and operated under battery power for the duration
of the net. |
